Over the weekend, Rockstar Games has received more bad news as players are losing their characters in Grand Theft Auto Online.

More bad news for players of Grand Theft Auto Online this morning as some players have lost their online characters.  That also means that those players have also lost all their money they had earned as well as their cars, properties, rank and in-game progress.

A post on the Rockstar Support site has confirmed reports from players that their characters are now missing and unplayable.  The post also tells that Rockstar is working to fix the issue but no official word on whether the players will be getting their characters back or not.

“We are working diligently to identify and correct the causes for these losses, as well as to establish how best to restore any lost progress and value,” said Rockstar Games.

The post also offered players some bits of advice about how to reduce the chances of having their in-game progress lost.

“When exiting GTA Online, please pause the game and choose to return to Single Player,” said Rockstar Games, “This will trigger a save and ensure that progress since the last auto-save is recorded.”

Rockstar also warns that, “If you purchase items and immediately power the console off or exit through the console system menus, those items may not be saved.”

Having played Grand Theft Auto Online yesterday, I highly recommend only exiting through the Pause menu, because I did not and I ended up losing one of my cars as well as the guns I had recently purchased.  I do not believe that my in-game money was affected but I could have avoided the situation entirely by just exiting through the Pause menu.

Don’t let this happen to you!  Exit through the Pause menu.

Rockstar has also advised players to not hit “Retry” if the message that “Rockstar Cloud Servers are unavailable” as that could be the main culprit behind the problem.  If the message pops-up, Rockstar has advised that players exit to Story Mode and try to re-enter Online through the Pause menu.

This is a high-priority issue for Rockstar as the company will be working quickly to have these issues resolved.  Once Rockstar has a fix, they intend to release a title update that should keep this from happening to other players.
