Assassin’s Creed: Unity Off to a Less Than Stellar Start

Assassin's Creed: Unity experiences glitches while Ubisoft struggles to update the game enough to make it playable on all platforms.

Just released on November 11, Assassin’s Creed: Unity has already experienced some rather interesting glitches, some within hours of being released. Though it was touted as the most detailed and comprehensive game in the franchise yet. Some think that the game was released before it was ready to play, leading to thousands of disappointed and angry fans.

Some glitches include:

  • Arno, the main character, falling through the ground into an endless abyss 
  • Game crashing during a co-op session
  • Arno getting stuck in hay carts, and other general delays
  • Buggy graphics that lead to floating eyeballs and denture-like teeth with the rest of the face missing
  • Warped and contorted figures
  • NPCs stuck in walls or floors
  • Arno is sometimes able to clutch onto ledges that aren’t there and float in midair

The problems with this game are seemingly endless, and more issues are coming to light as players work their way further into the storyline.

To combat the glitches, Ubisoft has already released what they’re calling a “Day 1 update” that fixes some of the issues, though a majority of the aforementioned glitches have not yet been fixed. Even today, four days since release and two patches later, users are still experiencing glitches.

One user on Ubisoft’s website says:

“Falling through the ground is still very much an issue on Xbox One.”

There are also many comments regarding being able to play at all; several players are unable to play because their connection failed, receiving this message:

“Connection Failed: A problem occured while trying to communicate with a Ubisoft online service. Please try again later. For more information, Visit assassinscreed.com/help. [0x60000001].”

Some gamers are even requesting their money back, expressing extreme disappointment in Ubisoft and the Assassin’s Creed series:

“Thank you Ubisoft for saving me $120 as I am not buying the season pass and Far Cry 4. Lost all my trust in your company.”

Aside from the barrage of comments, questions, and complaints, Ubisoft is already feeling the less than stellar release; stock in the company dropped approximately 9% within the day after release. They are working on more patches, attempting to address the most vital glitches. More patches and updates are expected within the next few days.

To keep fans updated on future patches, Ubisoft has created a Live Blog. Many issues are listed as being fixed, in the works, or as having a workaround, but complaints are still coming in.
