Assassin’s Creed: Unity – Patch Number Three Already on the Way

Assassin's Creed: Unity patches fixed the major issues with the game but more patches are on their way to address frame rate and other issues vital to gameplay.

Assassin’s Creed: Unity, released just over a week ago on November 11, was met with outrage on the part of followers of the Assassin’s Creed series. Major glitches made playing co-op, much less playing the game at all, impossible for users on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Issues ranged from the game not opening to characters missing faces to the co-op missions (a new feature for games in the franchise) not working at all.

Since it’s release last week, Ubisoft has released two patches to fix the major issues, giving the characters their faces back and improving frame rate. The game is far from perfect, however, with frame rate and visuals still impaired.

After a week of investigation into this problem, Ubisoft has cited these glitches as not being present during pre-release tests. “In spite of our testing, it looks like the instruction queue is becoming overloaded and impacting performance,” says the Live Updates Team via the Assassin’s Creed Live Updates page. What is being termed the “no face” bug was apparently an isolated issue, with only two PC graphics cards affected; this particular issue has since been fixed by the first patch.

One of the most intricate aspects of Unity, crowd size and individuality of crowd members, was suspected for tanking frame rate – but crowds have not shown any major issues. Tests conducted on crowd size show that it is not the culprit responsible for the slow frame rate plaguing many users.

The next patch doesn’t have a release date yet, but Ubisoft hopes to provide further updates regarding new fixes by the end of the week. In the meantime, Ubisoft is working on improving frame rate by smoothing out some issues during parkour movement and improving the prioritization of tasks to fix issues with certain processors and graphics cards.
