Batgirl: A Matter of Family sees a young Barbara Gordon, at the peak of her crime-fighting career, take on The Joker and Harley Quinn in order to save her father. The DLC takes place before even Arkham Asylum and players get to control Batgirl for the first time. Barbara Gordon has been featured in Rocksteady’s other Batman games as the fan-favorite computer whiz, Oracle.

Interestingly, The Joker has taken Jim Gordon to an amusement park in Gotham, which is quite similar to the events of The Killing Joke – arguably the most iconic Batman story of all time. However, in The Killing Joke, The Joker shoots Barbara, crippling her and ending her career a Batgirl, meaning Batman must find him and save Gordon. So this DLC plotline seems like a slight twist on that iconic story arc.

“Trained by Batman, Batgirl’s combat combines with unparalleled hacking abilities to take down enemies, control objects and solve puzzles” reads the synopsis from Rocksteady. This description implies Batgirl will get a host of new gadgets to take down enemies in the game, thus making her feel different to Batman. Not only will you get to play as Batgirl but Rocksteady also confirmed that you will be teaming up with the Boy Wonder as well.

In one review, a GameSkinny contributor said of Batman: Arkham Knight: the game “offers the best Batman gaming experience to date. The variety of its gameplay, compelling story, and beautiful aesthetics make this game a truly next-gen experience.”

Batgirl: A Matter of Family will release on July 14th, and is currently only announced for PS4 and Xbox One, due to the ongoing issues with the game on PC.
