Sucker Punch Productions’ Ghost of Tsushima is out June 26, but we’re getting some more details about it thanks to the newest Official PlayStation Magazine preview. Among other details, the preview reveals Ghost of Tsushima has no waypoints or waymarks and makes you learn the lay of the land to survive.

Reddit user u/Hunnbel provided the details, which Push Square originally picked up on.

The idea is to create as much of a realistic experience in Ghost of Tsushima as possible. The island has plenty of landmarks and noteworthy features to help guide you on your quest against the Mongols. It’s just completely up to you to learn them and not get completely lost. You’ll learn the island’s layout and figure out how to get where you need to go, just like Jin, the protagonist, would have to do.

The preview also mentions that Ghost of Tsushima‘s minimalist environments were a challenge for Sucker Punch, given the wealth of detail usually in the team’s games.

Having no waypoints as guides isn’t a completely new idea. Dark Souls famously gives you no clue where to go. However, it’s still just unusual enough in open-world games to be an interesting feature.
