ArenaNet is handing out free trials of their fantasy MMO Guild Wars 2 this weekend for the game’s first birthday. It’s like a hobbit’s birthday party and we will be getting the presents!

Guild Wars 2 usually sells at full price with a free subscription. It’s birthday should grab some more subscribers for the fastest selling Western MMO. The game has sold about 1.8 million units so far in the world since its release last year.

The free trial weekend is open to all players in North America and Europe. It will be starting at 12:01 a.m. PT, Friday, August 23 and ending at 11:59 p.m. PT on Sunday. A registration page  is available for trial players.

A ‘Digital Heroic Edition’ has also been announced for $49.99. This edition includes an armor pack, storage box and experience boosters. The ‘Digital Deluxe Edition,’ which is priced $20 more does include more items, but for this deal, I feel like the ‘Digital Heroic Edition,’ is worth it.

If you haven’t tried Guild Wars 2, I suggest taking advantage of this birthday weekend. Who knows, you might find your new favorite MMO.
