We know the big new Harry Potter game is still in the works. But a new report from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier sheds more light on the Harry Potter game leak and what we can expect from Warner Bros.’ ambitious Harry Potter project
Avalanche Studios is working on the Harry Potter game, which Bloomberg confirms is an open-world RPG. Hogwarts is the central location, with a number of areas to explore outside it. And the new Harry Potter game’s release date is tentatively set for late 2021 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
The leaked footage from a couple of years ago was legit, but “most” of the rumors about the game since then are false. So much for Dark Legacy Harry Potter game leak, which is hardly surprising given how oddly specific those rumors were.
The Bloomberg report mentions the studio has yet to respond to Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling’s controversial remarks about transgender people. Some of the development team members were very uncomfortable about those comments, however, and one of them told Bloomberg that Rowling actually has very little to do with the new game.
Still, the backlash could potentially affect when Warner Bros. reveals the new Harry Potter game. It was originally planned for reveal sometime after August 22 and DC FanDome, when Warner Bros. is reportedly revealing its new Batman game. But this was planned before Rowling’s latest Twitter disaster, and the report suggests reactions might affect the release date.
