Tired of Borderlands 2 yet? Hope not, because it’s going to be remastered on the new generation systems along with Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel in a bundle called Borderlands: The Handsome Collection.
Both games will be remastered to a higher definition for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It will include all the DLC and it will even have a retooled multiplayer split-screen which will allow up to four players to play at once.
Also important is the ability to transfer saves to a different console. PS3 owners can move over to the PS4 and Xbox 360 owners can move to the Xbox One with ease. As expected, there is not cross-system support.
Special edition Claptrap box set
A remastered bundle wouldn’t be complete without a more expensive collector’s edition. 2K announced that there will be a box set called the Claptrap-in-a-Box Edition, for preorder only, and there will be just a limited 5,000 editions available. What does the box set include?
- One copy of Borderlands: The Handsome Edition.
- A remote-controlled real-life Claptrap that talks.
- 12 lithographs.
- All of it in a steel case.
That’s right, you can have one of those wise-cracking robots running around and bothering the hell out of everybody.
Sounds like a wonderful afternoon, and you can even control it with your iOS or Android device. As long as you’re willing to lay down $399 for it. The normal bundle comes at the expected $59.99 retail price tag.
It makes sense for 2K to re-release Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel as it came out very late in the last generation era (last October). Having the addition of BL2 gives it some justification to resell it at a full retail price point because BL: TPS feels more like an expansion than a full-fledged game.
This news will be a bummer for those with last generation consoles that were holding out for some sort of ultimate edition for the PS3 or Xbox 360. With the announcement of this package on new generation consoles only, it’s doubtful 2K will use the resources to create one. However, you can get both Borderlands 2: Game of the Year Edition and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel for about $30 and $40, respectively, for both consoles at Amazon.
For those that had their fill of BL2 and just want to play BL: TPS on new consoles, it would be nice if there was something along the lines of a remastered edition sold separately at about half price. What are your thoughts on Borderlands: The Handsome Edition?
