Pull out your Necronomicons, kids, because Ash is back. After the cancellation of Ash vs. Evil Dead at the end of April, Deadite fans across the country mourned the end of an era for one of horror’s most iconic protagonists. According to a recent report, however, he hasn’t hung up the old Boomstick just yet.
In an exclusive interview with BloodyDisgusting, Campbell disclosed that although he is finished with the role of Ash Williams, “upcoming iterations” of the franchise are still in production.
“I have previous obligations I have to fulfill. They are doing a video game. A whole immersive kind of dealio. I’ll be Ash for that, because I wouldn’t want someone else’s voice hamming it up.”
Ash appears in several previous video game adaptions, including the original 1984 Commodore 64 title The Evil Dead, along with a mediocrely received “trilogy” during the PS1-PS2 generation. Campbell’s likeness was featured in the 1984 title, but his groovy voice only hit the gaming scene with 2000’s Evil Dead: Hail to the King.
The two most recent Evil Dead games, Army of Darkness: Defense and Evil Dead: The Game were released exclusively on iOS and Android. There are no further details on what platforms the new Evil Dead game will debut on, or what genre the game will fall in.
