Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer Trailer Previews Maps, Weapons, Killstreaks

We finally got a look at Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3's multiplayer in a new trailer. Here's what we learned.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 is coming, and while the campaign is part of the equation, a massive portion of the playerbase is focused on one thing: multiplayer. It’s what keeps the game alive in the long term. Now we have our first peek at Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer in a new trailer, and it shows off a lot of what players can expect of the mode when the game releases on November 10. We’ll discuss the important details to take away right here, including maps, weapons, and killstreaks.

COD: MW3 Multiplayer Trailer Previews Maps, Weapons, Killstreaks

We’ll be learning much more about Modern Warfare multiplayer at CoD Next on October 5, but the multiplayer trailer still provides plenty of juicy details to chew on in the meantime. First and foremost, we got a first look at several of the reprised Modern Warfare 2 (2009) maps, including:

  • Terminal
  • Invasion
  • Favela
  • Highrise
  • Estate
  • Wasteland
  • Afghan (oh boy!)
  • Derail
  • Scrapyard
  • Underpass
  • Skidrow
  • Rust

All the maps definitely have a fresh coat of paint, with improved models, textures, and art direction, but from a layout perspective, they all seemed like faithful recreations to me. Whether they’ll play like their classic counterparts is another matter entirely.

We also got to look at at least one of the large-scale Ground War maps, which features helicopters, dune buggies, light and heavy armored vehicles, and more. The space looked very open but seemed to have some more close-quarters routes for infantry, as well. It looks like there will be on-map events coming, too, with one of the GW maps experiencing a large ICBM launch in the middle of a match.

As far as weapons are concerned, I saw:

  • The G36 and its variants
  • The M14
  • The M4
  • The RPG-7
  • The M249 SAW
  • An 870-style shotgun
  • The Barret .50 Cal
  • The UMP
  • The G18s with Extended Mags
  • The Mini-Uzi
  • The Striker Shotgun
  • The SCAR-H
  • The ACR
  • M9 Pistol
  • A massive Revolver

Killstreaks included:

  • The UAV
  • Predator-style Missile
  • Chopper Gunner
  • Harrier Jet
  • EMP
  • Mortar Strike

There was also a smattering of what I can only imagine are premium Operator skins boasting bright colors and other garish aesthetics. There was diamond camo, which is making its triumphant return, and it doesn’t look half bad. Customizable finishers and melee weapons effects also made their appearance.

We were able to see some brief footage of the UI, and it looks similar (if updated) from Modern Warfare 2 (2022). You can somehow hold two lethal and two Tactical grenades, Field Upgrades are back, as the on-screen player had an ammo box. As promised, red dots have returned to the minimap, and there’s a compass at the top of the screen. Ledge hanging is still a thing, so hopefully, it doesn’t interfere with the faster mantling mechanics.

That’s what we noticed from the Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer trailer. We’ll undoubtedly get an even better picture of how MW3 plays when its multiplayer gets a deep dive in just a couple of days.
