Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Zombies Looks Like It Will Pack a Punch

Zombies is back in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, and it's as wacky and wild as you could hope for.

Call of Duty Zombies has always been on the wilder side. It puts any sense of realism aside in favor of a zany, science-fantasy romp against the undead. Zombies in Modern Warfare 3 attempts to bridge the gap between the realism of the rebooted franchise and the wackiness of Teryarhc’s classic mode. If you’re a fan, I’m happy to say it looks like there’s a lot to love with this year’s offering.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Zombies Looks Like It Will Pack a Punch

MW3 Zombies is a middle ground between the often campy, more science-fantasy stylings of past entries and the grounded, gritty narrative of the new Modern Warfare franchise. The mode takes place in the new Urzikstan Warzone map. But it still embraces the cheese from time to time. Tons of your favorite mechanics are back, including:

  • Perk-a-Cola Machines. All of the fan favorites are here. Speed Cola. Quick Revive. Juggernog. Better yet, their unique jingles are unchanged, and the hardass Modern Warfare operators seem…mildly confused at the silliness of it all. Which makes them drinking the Perk sodas all the funnier.
  • Wall buy weapons. While you can bring your custom loadouts into MW3 Zombies, there are also tons of wall weapons available. Whether these are upgradable with new attachments and other improvements is unclear. But the odds are you’ll need to use them to stay combat-ready.
  • Pack-a-Punch Machines. It wouldn’t be Zombies without Pack-a-Punch, and the iconic vending machines make their return in Modern Warfare 3 Zombies. As always, the zombies get more difficult as a match progresses, so Pack-a-Punch helps even the playing field.
  • Mystery Box: Your favorite RNG simulator is back. So is the Ray Gun, hidden in its inscrutable inventory. The box also still loves to troll you, so don’t expect to get what you want at any point.
  • Monkey Bombs. The cymbal monkey bombs are back, even in a grim-dark world like Modern Warfare 3‘s, and they function exactly how you remember them, pulling in zombies with happy sounds and voice lines, then exploding in a mass of gore.

Some of the more modern additions to Zombies also make an appearance. There are now mini-boss and boss-level monsters like those seen in Black Ops: Cold War, and while it’s your choice whether to fight them or not, I’d guess there are some sweet rewards for taking them out.

Lastly, the Modern Warfare 3 Zombies story is likely a continuation of the one Treyarch has been telling since Black Ops: Cold War, and you can expect returning characters, set pieces, and even easter eggs come launch. Stay tuned for more as we get closer to the release of MW3 on November 10 for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms.
