Capcom Squashes Hopes of Street Fighter 5 Coming to Xbox One

Capcom confirms that Street Fighter 5 will be staying a PS4 & PC exclusive. Wiping out hopes of it jumping to Xbox One.

Street Fighter can claim the title of one of the longest-running series in the fighter genre, with roots stretching back clear to the arcade days. The Capcom-owned series has been missing in action for a while now, but it’s ready to make a comeback in a big way with Street Fighter 5. This has been raising a lot of excitement from fans who are eager to jump back into the brawler once again, except for fans who own an Xbox One.

When Street Fighter 5 was first announced, fans were caught off guard by Capcom’s decision to only release it on PS4 and PC. No one was expecting the brawler to become a PS4 console exclusive, leaving the Xbox One out in the cold. After the shock wore off, fans started assuming that the game was only a timed exclusive and would eventually make its way to Xbox. Today Capcom smashed any hope that Street Fighter 5 would ever grace Microsoft’s latest console.

A Capcom representative reached out to Gamespot to confirm once and for all that Street Fighter 5 is going to stay locked into its PC and PS4 deal. The representative gave few details about why the title was staying locked, only saying the deal wasn’t just for marketing purposes, but for development as well, suggesting Sony is playing a part in the games development.

“We’re not talking about how we’re handling post-launch content, but I can say the relationship with Sony does open doors for things we haven’t been able to do in the past…The relationship serves a gameplay and development purpose, and not just a marketing value.”

Capcom’s representative didn’t stop there though. They squashed any possible hope gamers had of future iterations of Street Fighter 5 making its way to Xbox One. Meaning they can forget titles like Super Street Fighter 5 ever popping up in the Xbox library.

“One comment we see a lot is that something like a Super Street Fighter 5 is going to come out on Xbox. But the reality is that this is a real partnership. We are console exclusive for this franchise for this numbered run.”

It’s sad to see that Street Fighter 5 won’t be making an appearance on Microsoft’s latest console, but Xbox One owners still have plenty to look forward to. Xbox already has an impressive lineup of exclusive titles for owners to enjoy that should make this news easier to bear.
