Cyberpunk 2077, the next game from CD Projekt Red (creator of The Witcher series), may now be targeting a 2016 release, according to a new report.

Cyberpunk 2077, a futuristic RPG based on table-top games, was revealed back in 2012, but not much has been heard of the game since. CD Projekt Red said it would not even be discussing the game until 2017, but a new report from Gamereactor Germany states that the company now wishes to release it in 2016.

There has yet to be any official release date or even window revealed for Cyberpunk 2077 and it is currently only announced for PC, but a source close to the Polish developer said a PS4 and Xbox One version is “more than likely”. This seems rather obvious, considering PS4 and Xbox One helped The Witcher 3 reach 6 million sales! However, the source did claim that either Sony or Microsoft may attempt to claim the title as a console exclusive, which would be a huge get for either system.

Once The Witcher 3 released, the majority of the development team moved over to focus on Cyberpunk 2077, which took a backseat during the production of the former. CD Projekt Red has committed to supporting The Witcher 3 with DLC for a long time, however, with the second expansion coming in early 2016.

Several months ago, a visual effects artist at the studio said that Cyberpunk would be “far, far bigger” than anything else it has done, including the gigantic Witcher 3. Adam Kicinski, joint CEO of CDPR, said that the game is even more ambitious than previously thought. All of which leads us to be very skeptical of a 2016 release date.

The Witcher 3 contained a fun little easter egg about Cyberpunk 2077, which hinted at a shared universe between the two games, but we won’t spoil it here because it comes near the end of the game! You can watch the scene here, but beware of spoilers.
