A new, globetrotting adventure for Lara Croft.

After being delayed, this year’s Tomb Raider was released with much anticipation and critical praise. It was seen as a worthy addition to the iconic series. The game managed to capture the atmosphere of the debut title – the original saw you isolated, alone, and claustrophobic. This prequel successfully captured the essence of the series, while managing to define itself as something new. This game saw Lara Croft undergo a transformation due to her need for survival. The game is dark, violent, and brutal.

During San Diego Comic-Con this year, Dark Horse Comics made the announcement that they are publishing an upcoming comic that will feature Lara Croft and her next adventures. It will be set immediately after the events of the game.

Acclaimed comics writer, Gail Simone, stated that she will be working on the story because of her love of the game.

“I chose to do this series solely because I loved the game so much, so we’re definitely keeping the tone of the game.”

The comic will take Lara on a new adventure that will set up the premise of the next game. According to Simone,

“We start just a few weeks after the end of the game, and this is all in continuity, it will be Tomb Raider canon, and lead directly into the sequel. This is what got me excited; we get to be part of Lara Croft history.”

There has been speculation on whether or not the rebooted game series will continue, but this announcement has been the most indicative of a new game. This is good news considering the publisher, Square Enix, said that Tomb Raider had failed to meet sales targets – despite earning critical acclaim.

The comic is due for release on February 26, 2014.
