Diablo 4 Season of the Malignant Explained

Season of the Malignant will make its way to Diablo 4 on July 20, bringing new content for both the Season and Eternal Realms. A spreading corruption wreaks havoc in Sanctuary, forcing you to join Cormond in Kyovashad to end the plague that infects beasts, humans, and demons alike.

Malignant Elites will drop malignant hearts, a new item in Season 1. These can start an intense ritual when picked up, bringing the Elite back even more powerful than it originally was. Defeat it and its defending mobs to earn another new item, a Caged Heart, which can be socketed into jewelry to provide powerful new rewards. There’s also the addition of 32 Malignant Powers that offer a variety of new builds for all classes.

Diablo 4 Season of the Malignant Battle Pass

Season 1 sees the introduction of the Diablo 4 Battle Pass and Season Journey, which tracks your progress through the story’s seven chapters. Each chapter has multiple quests to complete, with rewards ranging from Legendary Aspects and materials to Favor and caches. Favor powers the Battle Pass, unlocking up to 27 new items for your account. There will be plenty of cosmetics and transmogs available.

Along with the season update will be new Legendary Items and Unique Items. These can be found in the Seasonal Realm and Eternal Realm. The “chonkers” patch will launch on July 18, allowing those playing in Eternal to find these new items immediately. The Season of the Malignant will unlock on July 20, with you starting at Level 1 in Kyovashad.
