Nippon Ichi’s Disgaea series is no stranger to over-the-top wacky characters, and if the new Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny character trailer is anything to go by, the latest entry is no different.

Zed the super-reincarnating zombie recruits help from some unlikely places. There’s his kindhearted sister Bieko, who just wants to do anything she can to help “bubby,” and their wisecracking dog Cerberus.

Princess Melodia also joins the fray, singing and twirling on her quest to prove she’s more than an airhead.

The king of the human world tries to buy the God of Destruction’s favor and resorts to crushing his foes with giant golden statues when that fails. 

The captain of the Prism Rangers fights for justice, as always, while the unassuming teacher Majolene transforms into magical girl Majolene to teach evildoers a lesson and protect her precious students.

Finally is the overlord Ivar, master of the world — in his opinion at least. Whether these outrageous companions are enough to bring about a happy ending, we’ll just have to wait until summer 2021 when Disgaea 6 releases on Nintendo Switch to find out.
