According to IGN’s Mitch Dyer, who recently tried out the multiplayer, there are three separate campaigns available with Inquisiton that “have a loose connection”  to the main storyline. Apparently, the idea is that the multiplayer missions involve “working for the Inquisitor, running behind-the-scenes Operations with a squad.”  Your “squad” will contain four characters, out of twelve possible characters to choose from. The missions also provide varied gameplay, with the environment slightly each time, and rely on you and your friends playing a balanced party to get things done.
