The first-person shooter genre is typically a fire-and-forget experience. Flavour-of-the-month titles are forced to re-release, re-invent and re-brand themselves regularly to stay in the game.

CCP Games aims to deliver something different with its free-to-play massively multiplayer shooter DUST 514 for the Playstation 3. Perhaps even revolutionise the console FPS market.

Game design concepts honed over ten years of cultivating their EVE Online sci-fi sandbox have made CCP Games industry masters at delivering a persistent universe, emergent gameplay and a meaningful experience.

Borrowing from the successful EVE OnlineButterfly Effect” video, an evolving game experience is the core message of the new DUST 514 trailer, in which we see a single mercenary take her first steps into ground combat and slowly see the universe of New Eden unfold before her. She becomes drawn in to bigger and more involved conflicts and as her skill improves she utilises more advanced equipment, mechanised armour and aerial combat vehicles alongside an ever-increasing number of allies.

Of course, the opportunity for a quick run-and-gun will always be there too, but the DUST 514 mercenary can invest time to develop, network and establish effective and renowned fighting forces.
