Elden Ring DLC Shadow of the Erdtree Announced For All Platforms

FromSoftware's mega-hit Soulslike Elden Ring will be getting a DLC expansion this year for all platforms.

After much speculation and fan craving, FromSoftware has finally announced some new DLC for its mega-hit fantasy RPG Elden Ring. Titled Shadow of the Erdtree, there actually isn’t much news about what this DLC will entail. A promotional image seems to show the Erdtree mid-growth, leading some to believe this will be a prequel campaign.

Interestingly, there is no release date or even release window for this expansion. A tweet on the official Elden Ring Twitter simply states that this extra content is now in development. It isn’t typical for FromSoftware to announce DLC that isn’t at least somewhat far along, so it seems possible that Shadow of the Erdtree may release in the summer.

At the very least, it is nice that this DLC will be available for all platforms. It’s unclear how many people purchased Elden Ring on PS4 and Xbox One, but it would be a shoddy business move to leave those customers out in the cold. With free upgrades to the next-gen versions available, this DLC will likely only require a single purchase as well.

Apart from this upcoming expansion, the only major addition to Elden Ring post-release has been a colosseum multiplayer add-on. It was included for free last December and added dedicated PvP arenas for players to battle, similar to the DLC that the original Dark Souls received. If past games are anything to go on, this expansion should prove to be quite large.
