Fan makes expanded Pokemon TCG art, looks amazing

Similar to Magic the Gathering expanded artworks, Lunumbra's Pokemon cards are something to be desired

A Tumblr user by the name of Lunumbra has been growing in popularity for expanding the artwork of Pokemon Trading Card Game cards. Fans of the Magic the Gathering card game are already likely familiar with expanded artworks, the likes of which are seen as collectables or favorites among Magic the Gathering players.

Lunumbra has applied a similar method of expanding artworks to a number of Pokemon cards, and the results are simply astounding.

Here are some examples:

You wouldn’t know by looking at the original cards, but Leafeon and Glaceon’s cards are actually part of one giant piece of art. This is actually a common trend among Pokemon cards.

Ditto goes for Magikarp and Gyarados. This pair really highlights the difference between the two Pokemon, doesn’t it?

The only downside to these expanded art cards is that the only way to preserve the text (and utility of the cards, I suppose) is to leave some space between the card text and the artwork. Still, they look great.

Lunumbra also does expanded arts for standalone cards. In the case of this Light Jolteon card, it certainly makes the card’s artwork look more at peace – as if the original didn’t already!

If you want to see more of Lunumbra’s work, you can find more at their Facebook page. Lunumbra also does commissions for those interested. The cost is typically $15 a piece (plus shipping) and is usually done within two weeks.
