Final Fantasy 16 to Have Performance and Frame Rate Modes

Square Enix is giving players choices when it comes to how they want to play Final Fantasy 16.

As more details trickle out about Final Fantasy 16, one of the burning questions fans have had since its announcement has been answered. Does the game run at 60 FPS? Being that it’s a next-gen-only game, we should expect to see better performance than what was possible in the past. Thankfully, it seems that Square Enix has taken this into consideration and will be giving players a choice on how they experience the game.

In a preview from Gematsu, Square Enix’s Naoki Yoshida confirmed that the final version of Final Fantasy 16 will feature what the developers are calling “Performance Mode” and “Frame Rate” mode. While that is a little confusing, the performance option will render the visuals at 4K resolution and likely 30 FPS. Frame Rate mode will prioritize smoothness over visuals and likely run at 60 FPS.

The demo that press got hands-on time with wasn’t fully optimized but was running on the performance option. There were some hiccups noted, but nothing too major and all issues should be cleared by the time the game launches. In an act of reassurance, Yoshida also stated that Final Fantasy 16 will not be getting any further delays.

“I can tell you that we do not foresee any delays and barring some act of God, like a meteor hitting our headquarters in Japan, the game will be coming out on time,” Yoshida told Gematsu. So unless something dramatic happens, we can expect to be playing Final Fantasy 16 on June 22, 2023. Keep your eyes peeled for more Final Fantasy 16 content here on GameSkinny.
