Final Fantasy 16’s Campaign Will Be “Complete” at Launch

Final Fantasy 16's main campaign will tell a complete story at launch, not requiring DLC to finish the main thread.

Previews for Final Fantasy 16 are starting to hit the internet and some new details are emerging about the game. Before writers were given access to a closed demo, Square Enix’s Naoki Yoshida gave a briefing about some of the specifics of FF16 and revealed some key information. The biggest bit of knowledge is that the main story of this latest entry will be complete. What that means is there won’t be any DLC required to fill in the gaps like in Final Fantasy 15.

As reported by PressStart, Yoshida stated, “One thing that was important to us was to tell a story that was complete, that had a beginning, a middle, and an end, and we think that we have succeeded.” To get this story across, Yoshida also revealed that Final Fantasy 16 will have over 11 hours of cinematic cutscenes in between gameplay segments. Since the transitions from gameplay to cutscene are reportedly seamless, it’s not exactly clear if the previously reported length of 35-40 hours will encompass those FMVs.

Interestingly, the game won’t stop at just cutscenes to explain information about its game world. While this is all optional, Square Enix has included some lore screens that can be accessed even during the middle of a cutscene to refresh your memory or fill you in on extra details.

Koji Fox, the game’s localization director, told PressStart, “In-game, we have many, many opportunities to learn about the game world and the lore. And not just through the main scenario, but through side content, whether it be through books, we have a Historian that you can visit, we have things in game where you can learn more about the lore and learn more about the world.”
