Final Fantasy Versus 13 seemed to have been swept under the rug, but there may still be hope. Let’s all hold hands and summon our collective energy to make the game jump to life! Or we could do the realistic thing and pay attention to the signs that Versus 13 is on the horizon.
General Manager of Square Enix’s Play Arts Kai brand, Hidemi Matsuzuka, posted this tweet earlier this morning:
王子! twitter.com/hidemi_mad_dog…
— 松塚英海 (@hidemi_mad_dog) February 18, 2013
Looks simple, right? Let’s look at this:
- 王子 (ouji) means “prince”.
- Prince Noctis is the name of the main protagonist in Final Fantasy Versus 13.
Why would the General Manager of Square Enix’s product line have an eau de toilette perfume with the name Noctis? Why would the tweet simply say “Prince!”?
All right, maybe you’re not convinced.
So how about Yoshihisa Hashimoto, one of the men behind Square Enix’s powerful Luminous Engine, taking a flight from Japan to JFK Airport the day before the PlayStation Meeting?
According to one NeoGAF user, this image was posted on his Facebook with the single word “行ってきまーす。” — “Here I go!”.
The image was removed shortly after both the English and Japanese sides of the internet got a hold of it. Proof that this is going to JFK can be found here.
So, is it coming? While the Square Enix employee flying to JFK isn’t very telling, the Tweet is either a very cruel joke or a hint at the best news Final Fantasy fans have heard in years. Final Fantasy Versus 13 may not be dead, and we will find out for certain come tomorrow evening during the PlayStation Meeting at 6PM EST!
[Update!]
Hidemi Matsuzuka’s English and Japanese Twitter accounts now sport a new, mysterious Tweet:
Yes its on process! Still under Mr. Nomura’s supervision tough. twitter.com/hidemi_mad_EN/…
— Hidemi Matsuzuka (@hidemi_mad_EN) February 19, 2013
My hype for whatever is coming could simply not be higher. Whatever it is, it’s big. Really big.
