The first online tournament to allow the use of Kalos region Pokemon will begin this February, the Pokemon Company announced yesterday.

By utilizing the Pokémon Global Link system, participants of the aptly titled Pokemon X and Pokemon Y Beta Competition will be able to connect and battle with other trainers from around the world. The tournament will begin on Thurday, February 21 at 00:00:00 UTC (7 p.m. ET) and end on February 24.

Highly ranked trainers from the 2013 Global Showdown for Pokemon Black 2 & White 2 have already qualified for the tournament, with many other registered PGL players also receiving invitations. All other hopeful participants can register for the remaining 10,000 spots starting January 31 on the PGL site.

According to the official Korean site, the tournament will consist of Double Battles with each trainer participating in up to 20 battles a day. Pokemon will automatically be capped at Level 30 and all Pokemon from the National Pokedex may be used, except Mewtwo, Xerneas, Yveltal and Zygarde.

More details are expected this Friday.
