It’s been common knowledge for some time that Fortnite would make the jump to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S as a launch title, but until now, we didn’t know what upgrades the move would bring.

Confirmed yesterday via Epic Games’ website, the Series X and PS5 versions of Fortnite will run at 4K resolution, hitting 60 frames per second in all modes, even local split-screen mode. The Xbox Series S version of Fortnite will also hit 60fps in all modes, but it will remain capped at 1080p resolution.

Other improvements across all systems include refined visuals, such as “more dynamic” environments and “all-new Storm and cloud effects,” among other things.

As expected, crossplay and account progression will also transfer onto these next-gen editions of Fortnite.

The PS5 edition of Fortnite also includes full support for the DualSense controller, including haptic feedback on ranged weapons. PS5 Activities are also supported, letting players jump straight into the battle royale lobby.

Epic is also gifting players a Throwback Axe Pickaxe from November 4 through January 15, 2021. The free item will be available to all players.

All of these upgrades are sounding very impressive but how the battle royale performs on next-gen platforms remains to be seen (though it will probably run just fine). Stay tuned to GameSkinny for more Fortnite updates as they happen.
