During today’s developer diary, Bungie gave some details on the guns and loot that you will be able to acquire in Destiny.

According to Destiny lead designer Lars Bakkan, the game will feature an arsenal “much bigger” than anything that Bungie has done before; you will be able to wield fire-spewing shotguns and fusion rifles alongside traditional pistols and rifles.

Weapons will fall into three categories: Primary (auto rifles and hand cannons), Special (shotguns and sniper rifles), and Heavy (rockets and belt-fed machineguns). There will also be subcategories within each weapon type.

The auto rifle subcategory will include burst-fire pulse rifles, single-shot carbines, and full-auto assault rifles that will be incredibly effective close range. All classes can wield any weapon type, and weapons can carry over between classes.

You can also break down unwanted gear into raw components that you can use to upgrade your weapons with new effects, including “elemental damage” such as Arc, Thermal, or Void damage. This damage stacks up on top of your weapon’s base damage, and will add a layer of strategy in weapon choice.

Loot drops just for you

Loot also comes in the form of armor, which fortifies both your defense and class stats. Both weapons and armor will have a unique look, and have a unique feel to them. Bungie’s design team have worked hard to make all the weapons in Destiny fit in with the game’s fiction, and make them feel like a natural part of the world. As you progress, the gear will look more epic, reflecting your characters growth through the game.

Loot will drop according to your class. When loot drops, all players involved will receive items that pertain to their class and their personal build, customizing items drops for all players. Any ammo dropped also fits your weapon, giving rifle users rifle ammo or pistol users pistol ammo. Thus, when you are in a Fireteam (what small squads are called in Destiny), no one fights over gear, and they get gear that fits them.

Destiny’s beta will kick off this summer. The game’s beta will first be available on the PlayStation platforms, following on the Xbox 360 and Xbox One. The game has a September 9 release date.

I am glad there will be a personal loot system in Destiny.

It makes things less stressful when trying to get that piece of loot that you are aiming for. I also like the idea of receiving loot that pertains to your class and gun type, rather than receiving loot that you cannot use like in some other MMOs. Plus, some of that armor just looks really bad-ass.

As Destiny gets closer, I am getting more and more excited. I am ready to jump into the beta this summer, and finally be able to try this game myself. Bungie has mentioned that the beta will have a nice chunk of content, so it seems like we will get a good look at the world of Destiny. Hopefully it will stand up to the expectations everyone is going to have for this game.
