The beta started up yesterday, March 22 — but it is a closed beta, so you will have to jump through a few hoops to get your hands on the software. In order to qualify for the closed beta you must be a Mac user over the age of 18 and follow the directions below.

  • Send an email to [email protected] with the subject line “Mac IDE Closed Beta”
  • In the email body, include the following information:
    • Full name
    • Country
    • Mac specifications (including OS version)

GMS2 went into its Windows beta on November 2, 2016. Since then, it’s gone through a number of updates, patches, and fixes that are quickly making it a go-to engine for aspiring game developers — especially those looking to make mobile games.

With a superior workflow over the GameMaker: Studio 1.4 engine, as well as a much more robust and intuitive user interface, GMS2 makes it even easier to get into developing games even if you have no prior programming experience. This is thanks to its logical Drag-and-Drop programming system.
