Getting Swatted Captured on Twitch

Gamer gets swatted, and it's all captured in video and streamed to twitch.
This article is over 9 years old and may contain outdated information

It’s been a while since I last heard about anyone getting swatted, which is a prank call (if you can even call it that) placed to the police about an extremely (fictitious) dire situation that SWAT is dispatched to the location.

Jordan Mathewson, who goes by the handle of “Kootra”, just got swatted yesterday, while playing Counter-Strike. His ordeal was captured on video, as he was streaming live to Twitch while it was going on.

At about 15 second mark in the video, we see Kootra look behind him as there is some commotion going on. He later guesses he is getting swatted, but somehow does not take it too seriously. The rest of the video is him getting interrogated by the SWAT, who is obviously still on high alert.

On Twitter, someone under the name of @ScrewPain is taking credit for this stunt, who explains himself in a DM chat with ABC correspondent Eric Kahnert. He claims to have done this simply because he could.  According to the police, a 911 call was made claiming that two co-workers have been shot, with several others taken in as hostages. It also stated that the shooter would start shooting officers if they entered.

Fortunately, no one was hurt in all of this, and Mathewson was eventually released without charge.

I’m not sure what people get from calling the SWAT on someone. If @ScrewPain is for real, he had no real reason to do this, and just wasted a lot of people’s time and police resources. What do you think? Am I just being too conservative in thinking this way?
