Have you ever used Google Image Search and stumbled across porn based on what you’ve been searching for? Of course you have, don’t lie. There are some things about the internet that you just can’t deny. This is definitely one of them.
Well no more! Google snuck in an update to their Image Search algorithm to make it more difficult to stumble across porn when you didn’t want to find it in the first place.
One is the Loneliest Number…
This change in search results applies even if you have SafeSearch turned off. If you are actually looking for pornographic material, you are going to have to be a little more specific in your search terms when using Google Images from now on.
While some Reddit users claim this to be a form of censorship, what Google has essentially done is make the Image Search more like their regular search feature. Google search results used to throw porn at you even if you thought what you were searching for was work safe and squeaky clean — that doesn’t happen all that much these days.
Whether this is a good or a bad thing is up to you. If you’re really on the prowl for porn, just be more specific in your search. If you like getting boob surprises when looking for totally unrelated terms, you’re out of luck. Just like me.
