Rockstar later said the DLC would been coming shortly after the Xbox One and PS4 versions of the game released. Now Rockstar have said to expect the Heist DLC early 2015. Maybe alongside the PC release, 27th of January 2015?

Similar to GTA V single player, heists will be given to you by Lester.

Why has it taken so long?

In an interview with IGN Imran Sarwar, GTA Online producer and lead mission designer has explained why. The basic idea is that creating a multiplayer Heist is complicated, and Rockstar didn’t expect the additional development time:

As it turns out, creating missions of [GTA Online Heists’] complexity for multiple players at the same time was much more difficult than we anticipated and every time we thought we were close, something would send us back to square one. Having already let players know of our intentions with Heists, every setback only increased the pressure to make sure we got them right.

Looks like you will be breaking someone out of prison bus.

Rockstar wanted to give each player the sensation of being central to the heist…

Regarding this complexity Rockstar gave the example of a getaway driver. Saying that in a film or in GTA V singleplayer, you can just switch to where the action is, and forget about the driver. Where in multiplayer someone is controlling that driver and they will just be sitting in the car waiting for the action to come their way. Rockstar wanted to give each player the sensation of being central to the heist at all times, and “that’s much more challenging than it appears.”

Expect the GTA Online Heist DLC early 2015… Or do you think it be delayed again?
