Luchador Juan Aguacate became an indie icon with the release of Guacamelee over five years ago. The Metroidvania platformer took the gaming scene by storm with its tight controls, witty humor, and authentic Mexican style.
Tomorrow, the retired hero must once again slip into spandex and put on his luchador mask to stop an evil overlord and save the Mexiverse in Guacamelee! 2 for PS4 and PC.
Improving on the original, Guacamelee! 2 introduces new levels, enemies, characters, and all new chicken powers (yes, you can finally fulfill your dreams of being a deadly Cucco).
Concept Lead at Drinkbox Studios, Augusto Quijano, had this to say about using Mexico as the main focus of the setting.
“Mexico is such a vibrant and colorful country. Oftentimes that stuff doesn’t make the front page news, so we wanted to put it front and center in Guacamelee 2. Mexican folklore heavily influenced and shaped the areas, characters, enemies and music of Guacamelee 2. If you were a fan of the first game you will have a completely new, yet familiar experience. If this is your first time playing, I hope you have as much fun exploring this rich world as we had making it!”
Starting tomorrow, PlayStation Plus members and Steam users can get a 10% discount with their purchase, and Steam users who already own the original game will get an additional 10% off coupon.
