Guerrilla Games Teases Horizon Forbidden West Sequel

Aloy's confrontation with Nemesis will happen eventually, and it appears Guerilla has started work on it already.

On the heels of the Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores DLC release comes a teaser for the next entry in the series. As part of a release from Guerrilla Games regarding the departure of Studio Director and Executive Producer Angie Smets to PlayStation Studios, the developer hinted that the sequel to HFW is already in development. The release was spotted by Kotaku

The key part of the release reads:

We have full confidence in our new leadership as they steer Guerrilla towards a bright future, expanding the world of Horizon with Aloy’s next adventure and our exciting online project. Michiel van der Leeuw (Technical Director) will be focusing on the future technology and strategy for the Decima engine.

It’s no surprise a sequel is being developed. HFW ended on a cliffhanger, with the impending doom of the planet (again) standing in the way of peace. This time the enemy is coming to Earth instead of sending the signal that corrupted Hades. With such a large cliffhanger in play, fans clamored for the end of the story.

With the Burning Shores DLC, more of the Zenith backstory was revealed instead of rushing a confrontation with Nemesis. At the moment, the final confrontation with Nemesis still looms, as does the final chapter of Aloy’s story.

The prospect of HFW sequel is even brighter with the appointment of Angie Smets to Head of Development Strategy at PlayStation Studios. As former co-head of Guerrilla Games, you can bet PlayStation Studios will continue to invest in the machine world of Horizon under Smet’s leadership.

Right now, there’s no word from the development team on a title, release date, or anything else for that matter.

Fans of the series can look out for more news concerning a potential sequel, as well as a new multiplayer game set in the Horizon world. Stay tuned for any other Horizon Forbidden West news, including new game announcements, with GameSkinny.
