Arc System Works, the developers behind the Guilty Gear and BlazBlue fighting game series, announced today that they have acquired “all intangible property rights” of all titles by the now defunct Technos Japan Corporation from Million Co, LTD. Some of the titles being transferred to Arc System Works include the Double Dragon and Kunio-Kun series. You may recognize some of the early Kunio-Kun games by their localized versions for the NES, such as River City Ransom and Super Dodge Ball.

What are Intangible Property Rights?

To put it simply, intangible property rights include all ownership of a property other than actual physical (or tangible) property. This includes ownership of things such as copyrights, trademarks, and patents.

This means that effective June 1st 2015, Arc System Works has full rights to Technos Japan Corporation’s intellectual properties. They can begin creating new games that include the characters, settings, and whatever else is associated with their IPs.

What are they going to do with those rights?

There’s no plans currently underway, but it means we could start seeing Double Dragon‘s Billy and Jimmy mixing it up with Sol Badguy and Ky Kiske in the next Guilty Gear game or the next Super Dodge Ball title might take place in the BlazBlue continuity.

Okay, I’m totally just making stuff up here, but I’m just excited at the prospect of getting a Super Dodge Ball game with the artistic style of Guilty Gear Xrd.
