Halo: E3 Reveal and Features Lowdown!

A new Halo has been announced at E3.

343 Industries announced at this year’s E3, during the Microsoft press release, that a new Halo game is coming to the Xbox One later this year. Called only “Halo” for now, we do not know yet if it is Halo 5 or another new spin-off series of the classic franchise.  What we do know is that Master Chief will make an appearance, but whether he is the main character or a supporting character has yet to be revealed.

THE FEATURES:

The team’s spokesperson Bonnie Ross gave the lowdown on some of the new features that will be brought to the game, “taking full advantage of the power and flexibility of Xbox One.” The first of these features is a constant 60 frames per second. This is a first for the Halo franchise and will provide a very smooth gameplay experience that has been seen in other games, including Call of Duty

The second feature new to Halo is dedicated servers. Up until now, players would be connected to each other by having one of the players be the “host” of the game.  Now, 343 Industries will have servers that players will connect to when they enter matchmaking.  This means the end of the ominous “host has quit the battles” errors that have plagued Halo since the original Halo: Combat Evolved.

The third, and perhaps most interesting, is the addition of cloud based computing.  What this means is anyone’s guess, but if we look at current games that incorporate cloud gaming, then this could make or break the new Halo.  Does the game need a constant online connection even for single player, a la SimCity. If so, can we expect more of the same?

Please comment below and let us know what you think about the new Halo game and what you want to see when it releases later this year!
