Higurashi: When they Cry Greenlit on Steam, Possible New Translation Coming

Higurashi on Steam? It's more likely than you think!

I’m not going to gush over Higurashi: When they Cry, because now is not the time. Now is the time to celebrate the game being greenlit on Steam, and to get excited over a possible new translation of the mystery sound/visual novel!

Higurashi: When they Cry is just one of 07th Expansion’s stellar sound novels, but it is certainly one of the best. I won’t spoil anything here — but Higurashi may just be for you if you love murder mysteries, tense atmospheres, and reading.

Publisher MangaGamer spoke with visual novel site VNTLS on the topic of the game’s Steam release, stating they may be working on a new translation for the mystery sound novel if their schedule allows and if the revision itself gets greenlit.

This is all very exciting news to visual novel and 07th Expansion fans everywhere hoping to see the circle’s games have some sort of recognition in the West. While I personally vastly prefer Umineko no Naku Koro ni over Higurashi, this is one big step to maybe seeing more of the visual or sound novel genre making its way to Steam.
