With the annual Consumer Electronics Show just around the corner, custom PC manufacturer, ibuypower, has revealed its first Steam Machine Prototypes.
The machines are aptly code-named Gordon and Freeman, after one of Valve’s legendary characters, Gordon Freeman of Half-Life fame.
Set to launch in 2014, the company claims these classy boxes will be able to run any current Steam game at 60 frames per second at 1080p resolution. According to The Verge, at least one of these Steam Machines will be bundled with a Steam Controller, pack an AMD multi-core processor, AMD Radeon R9 270 graphics card and sell for $499.
Engadget got some time with the prototypes and said that they’re not quite finished projects. That’s a statement open to plenty of interpretation, but at least it means they’re functional, with early versions of the Steam OS.
I suspect we will be seeing more of “Gordon” and “Freeman” at the upcoming CES.
