Season’s greetings, Summoners!

Tis the season and as always, Riot Games is ready with deals and promotions for the festivities.

Skins, Skins, Skins

Even a Grinch couldn’t stop this year’s holiday cheer.  The skins that’ve been tested on the PBE are going live, but League of Legends is hardly stopping there.  Not satisfied with simply releasing this year’s Christmas skins, the skins from last year are also going to be re-released for this yuletide beatdown in case you missed them last year.  That’s eight different skins to choose from and hemorrhage RP for, even without considering the two ward skins.

Gift-giving season!

The thing most people think about around Christmas time isn’t vanity skins or even the amount of money they’ll spend (hopefully), but the gifts.  Giving or receiving, gifts of all forms and types get thrown all about during the holidays, and Riot Games is finally addressing the decided lack of a gift-giving function on League of Legends.

Just in time for the Snowdown Showdown, Riot is implementing a gifting function.  It will now be possible to purchase RP for your friends or to use your own RP to give them skins and champions.

To keep us all safe from the people who would try to abuse this system, there are a few restrictions on the gifting, so keep them in mind.  You can only give gifts to summoners you’ve been friends with since the start of December, and you have to buy what you are gifting as you gift it.  No re-gifting those skins you’ve had sitting around unused.  You have to be level twenty to send a gift and level ten to receive one.  You cannot gift to banned accounts, either, and generally cannot give more than 3 gifts in a given day.

And icons, too

There are also six new summoner icons that can be unlocked and added to your repertoire.  Unlike the Harrowing icons from this past Halloween, these icons are not unlocked in tiers for increasing amounts of RP purchased, but for completing different activities centered around giving or group activities.  Joining a full five-summoner queue unlocks one icon, gifting each of the things you can (a skin, a champ, and RP) each unlocks one, and the more ambiguous goals of behaving well within the spirit of the season and being one of the Snowdown’s top participants unlock the final two.

Get gaming, Summoners.  I’ll look for you on the field.  I’ll be the Christmas tree.
