PC Gamer recently revealed the secrets behind this remake of 2009’s Killing Floor after a discussion with Tripwire staff. Fans of the first Killing Floor can be thankful that it sounds as though the original recipe, authentic weapons plus mutant monster gore equals fun, will be the same focus in Killing Floor 2.

Killing Floor is a simple game,” Bill Munk, Tripwire’s creative director, senior animator, and co-founder told PC Gamer. “You have weapons. You see something that looks messed up. And you kill it. You get money for doing it and you buy better weapons. Rinse and repeat. The more enjoyable that small little loop is, the more successful the game is.”

And it has been a successful game, with Tripwire selling 2.5 million copies as of this year.

For now, no details have been revealed to suggest Killing Floor 2 won’t meet the same level of success. Fans can expect the same simple and addictive gameplay, except this time around they may be left wanting to come back for even more.

“A big goal for us this time around is to make sure the endgame, playing the game for a long time, is much more entertaining and has a lot more replay value,” said Tripwire President and Co-Founder John Gibson.

Killing Floor 2 has an increased maximum perk level of 25, with brand new abilities added. The game has also been made with mods in mind and will support the Steam Workshop.

Lovers of some realistic blood and gore also have something to be excited about, as Killing Floor 2 looks to have greatly improved visual elements. Each specimen in the game will have 19 points of dismemberment and 95 death animations. Permanent blood stains will also be a fixture throughout each match.

Killing Floor 2 does not yet have an exact release date but Gibson said it will be released to Steam Early Access sooner than he may expect. The game will be available on Windows and SteamOS.
