LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga promises big changes for the long-running formula, with all nine mainline films being playable this time around, all built from the ground up in one massive package. The Skywalker Saga reportedly won’t retread content from previous series entries.

In an interview with StarWars.com, Jonathan Smith, head of production and strategic director at Traveller’s Tales Games, and Craig Derrick, managing producer at Lucasfilm Games, gave further insight into the development of the project. There’s a promise of more freedom and the ability to start from a trilogy of your choosing.

Smith said:

Freedom of choice is a really important principle for us! We love stories and storytelling; but we also feel, both as gamers ourselves and with particular concern for young players driven to experimentation and change, that stories exist to be played with, however the player wants.

With Derrick adding:

We all have our favorites that we want to jump straight into, while others may want to start with the new trilogy first, and yet we find most want to start at the beginning of the saga to see and play from where the story all began.

Aside from a certain freedom of choice, there’s also said to be over 500 characters in the game, spanning from The Phantom Menace to The Rise of Skywalker. Said to be massive with an epic feel in scope, The Skywalker Saga will feature dozens of locales and planets from The Clone Wars to Imperial Era and beyond.

While there’s still no official release date, Warner Bros. is eying a Summer 2020 launch window for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. Be sure to check GameSkinny for more on LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga as it comes in.
