Lights out for G4

NBC Universal sets gaming focused TV channel G4's last air date to November 30, 2014.

After years of slow heartbreak, NBC Universal is finally going to pull G4 off cable television completely. The last day the gamer focused television channel will air is November 30, 2014. This is something that many viewers saw coming as NBC had turned the station into a rerun factory of LOST, X-Play, and Ninja Warrior. The days of excellent programming such as Attack of the Show, Cinematech, and Pulse have been long gone.

With ever-growing internet news outlets focused around gaming, it’s easy to see why a game focused TV channel lost its profitability as viewers moved away from cable TV. It will be sad that there will never be an X-Play All Access for events such as BlizzCon, GamesCom, PAX, or Tokyo Game Show, but there will always be new sources. G4 will not be remembered for what it is today, but for what it was as their shows touched many lives and helped form gaming news into the behemoth it is today.

As quoted in William Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Hamlet

Now cracks a noble heart. Goodnight, sweet prince;
And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.
