Lords of the Fallen Technical Showcase Trailer Reveals Some Impressive Graphical Technology

Lords of the Fallen will put next-generation consoles to work when it releases this fall.

During a GDC Showcase yesterday, publisher CI Games uploaded a new technical showcase trailer for its upcoming action RPG Lords of the Fallen. Not to be confused with the 2014 original, Lords of the Fallen is the long-gestating sequel that will be hitting PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S later this year. From the looks of things, it will be one of the first games on the market to make extensive use of Unreal Engine 5’s unique features.

While there isn’t much in the way of gameplay here, the visuals on display do look quite impressive. One interesting feature in Lords of the Fallen will be its character creator. With help from Hexworks, a small studio formed in 2020, CI Games has been able to incorporate 3D scans of real people to push its character creator to ever greater heights. With this technology and UE5’s own built-in features, players will be able to get closer than ever to recreating themselves.

Along with that, we were given some additional info on how this sequel will expand beyond the original. The game world is more interconnected than before and will be around five times larger than the first game. UE5 will also let players transition between two different worlds without much waiting, keeping them engaged with the action for long stretches.

While a lot of this is simply a bunch of platitudes, it does seem as if Lords of the Fallen will be a big leap over its predecessor. The game will release sometime later this year and can be wishlisted on all platforms.
