The team over at Digital Foundry have discovered that Mafia 3‘s latest patch has given the title a boost on the Playstation 4 Pro, despite no mention of the upgrades in the recent patch notes.

Improvements via the patch are as follows:

  • Resolution increased to 1440p
  • 1080p supersampling
  • Improvements in shadow quality
  • Improvements to draw distance
  • Improved motion blur effects

4K televisions users will see a benefit in a locked 30FPS with full V-sync.  A welcome improvement as screen tearing was quite apparent with the launch version of the game, although base Playstation 4 users will still see occasional tears when frames drop below target.

Interestingly there have been a few drawbacks with the update on the more powerful hardware as Digital Foundry noticed that the Playstation 4 Pro version suffered a loss in performance in the more action based areas of the game with drops in frame rate hitting as low as 26FPS when compared to the base Playstation’s 30FPS.
