Mass Effect Andromeda delayed to 2017

Delays hit yet another big game. EA's highly anticipated Mass Effect Andromeda the latest to feel the delay bug's wrath.

Yet another game has been delayed — this time BioWare’s Mass Effect Andromeda is the unlucky victim. Originally slated for a holiday 2016 release, EA CFO Blake Jorgensen announced the next installment in the Mass Effect franchise has been pushed to Q1 2017.

During a Morgan Stanley Technology, Media, & Telecom Conference, Mr. Jorgensen was asked about the state of the company’s non-sports related franchises. His response was that it would be arriving during EA’s “fourth quarter,” which spans January to March. The full quote can be seen here:

“We’ve got a great year ahead… we’ve got our Battlefield first-person shooter game coming in the third quarter, and our third-party title that Respawn, our partner, built, it’s called Titanfall, it’s the second title that they brought into that brand. Both of those are first-person shooters and will be targeted around the fast, action-driven shooter market, as well as the strategy-driven market in that quarter… We have our Mirror’s Edge runner game this first quarter, and then we have Mass Effect, which is a sci-fi action game, in our fourth quarter. So big year ahead and we’re pretty excited.”

This news is not very surprising, given that we have yet to see any actual gameplay. In fact, since the E3 trailer, we haven’t seen any news regarding Mass Effect Andromeda, so it almost felt like a forgone conclusion that it’d see a delay. That said, hopefully we’ll get more information soon. Some gameplay footage would be nice.

What do you guys think? What’s the next game that’s going to be delayed? (My money is on Sony’s Horizon Zero Dawn.) Let me know down in the comments!

Hi! My name is Nick, and I am yet another kid trying to break into the world of gaming journalism. I am currently attending grad school and pursuing my Master's in Journalism. Want to know my favorite game? It's Mass Effect, but not the third one; we don't talk about that one. I am also an avid fan of any and all board games, and you should totally try Risk Legacy; it's like regular Risk but better.
