Konami will officially launch Metal Gear Online open beta today (Jan. 12) for Windows PC around 10pm PT. Robert Allen Peeler announced the beta launch for Metal Gear Online during a Twitch stream yesterday.
Peeler says: “While that’s [10pm PT] our target time, there’s a chance it’ll slip by an hour or two as we implement this awaited update, but rest assured we will be here for support and launch as planned.”
The update includes a new map, knife mechanics, new cosmetics, and more. The new map does not have a name, so Peeler says the name will be decided by players and you can send your name ideas via Metal Gear Online Twitter @MetalGearOnline. Watch the Twitch stream for more information.
Players can access this beta through Metal Gear Solid 5. MGO adds three competitive modes called Bounty Hunter, Comms Control, and Cloak and Dagger.
In Bounty Hunter, you earn Bounty Points for defeating other players, especially with Fulton, and these points can be turned in to revive tickets. The first to reduce the enemy’s team tickets to zero wins.
Comms Control entrusts one team of players to capture Comm Links to download intel under a time limit. If the other team prevents them from completing the download, then they are victorious. Comm Links are captured by staying within the range of the Comm Links until they take ownership.
Cloak and Dagger arms players with non-lethal weapons only and the attackers must recover a Data Disk and upload it to an Evac Point within the allotted time limit. Defenders naturally must stop the attackers. Each player only has one life so once you are eliminated, you cannot return until the next round.
Metal Gear 5 is available for purchase on Steam for $59.99.
