Microsoft Confirms Kinect Uses 10% of Xbox One Resources

Microsoft just keeps shooting themselves in the foot. 10% of Xbox One resources are reserved for the kinect.

With the launch of the next console generation rapidly approaching, the rumor mill is in full swing–and so console giants, Sony and Microsoft, are working to squash them.

Microsoft has confirmed that the Kinect 2.0 will have 10% of the Xbox One’s graphical resources reserved. This is potentially a nail in the coffin for Microsoft, as the PS4’s specs are significantly more impressive. With an additional 10% locked down by the Kinect… well, we’ll just have to wait and see.

However all hope is not lost for Microsoft, as Andrew Goosen explained:

“The current reservation provides strong isolation between the title and the system and simplifies game development – strong isolation means that the system workloads, which are variable, won’t perturb the performance of the game rendering,”

The company feels that this will help simplify things for developers and will potentially lift the restriction as the console matures.

“In the future, we plan to open up more options to developers to access this GPU reservation time while maintaining full system functionality,” said Goossen.

An anonymous source spoke to Eurogamer and voiced concerns that developers would be releasing a lot of “sub-1080p” games early in the Xbox One development cycle due to the constant flux of Xbox One details.
