Microsoft Points Will Begin to Phase Out Next Month

Say goodbye to your Points.

“You’ll continue to get rewarded for doing the things you love on Xbox Live — just not with Microsoft Points.”

This marks the beginning of the end to Microsoft Points. The form of currency only used within Xbox Live Marketplace.

By now most of us know that Microsoft Points are stored in association with your Xbox Live account. But with the announcement of the Xbox One, Microsoft has decided they were ridding the points system for real currency. The current price is $4.99 for 400 Points, $9.99 for 800 Points, and on until $74.99 for 6,000 Points.

The transition is set to start on August 1.

Currently, Microsoft Points are used via the Xbox Live Marketplace and can buy games, Gold subscriptions, and be given out as rewards. Microsoft has claimed that they will replace rewards with something, “even better.” What this means is completely up to speculation.

But don’t worry, any remaining points in your account will be converted into your local currency starting on August 7. Microsoft had this to say,

“To make this a seamless and positive experience for our customers, we have considered many factors to ensure that the amount deposited in your Microsoft account will be of equal or greater marketplace value than your Microsoft Points.”

Regardless, maybe it’s time to use up those old Points.
