Things are about to get a lot easier to manage in the eSports scene. In a move that competitors and viewers alike will enjoy, Major League Gaming (MLG), the Electronic Sports League (ESL), and Dreamhack are coming together to improve the eSports environment on all levels.

For those not in the loop, let’s cover who these giants in the eSports scene are:

  • Major League Gaming – The largest eSports organization in the world
  • Electronic Sports League – The largest online gaming league in Europe
  • Dreamhack – The largest eSports host and computer gaming festival.

The collaboration between the three organizations are coming together to “further competitive activity, benefit players and spectators, alleviate the taxing event schedule, eliminate confusion about global standings and help nurture the development of North American and European players.”

So what does this mean?

There will be a universal ranking system for players that will affect their qualification for events, and will affect seeding in those events. This will make things more convenient for players or teams trying jumping between tournaments from one organization to the other, and for those just breaking into them.

Players and viewers alike can also be excited about the scheduling calendar, as the three organizations will be sharing the same calendar to avoid scheduling conflicts. No more trying to decide on a stream to watch (and no more watching two in separate windows at the same time, thank goodness).

Look forward to these changes and more being implemented for the last season this year and carried forward as MLG, ESL, and Dreamhack begin implementing these changes.
