Modern Warfare 3 Zombies Trailer Brings Undead Back to the Battlefield

Zombies are back in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3, in all new storyline that seems to continue the one we know from Black Ops Cold War.

We know Zombies is coming to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, and now we know the story. In a new cinematic trailer for the upcoming mode, players everywhere finally got a look at the zombies themselves. Not only that, but we now know the narrative threads that will tie everything together. We also got a peek at the mode’s cast of characters — some new, some returning — as well as the more supernatural elements that zombies fans are familiar with.

A Modern Warfare Take on Zombies

Image via Activision

Zombies in Modern Warfare 3 is a more “realistic” take on the classic offering, or at least as realistic as the living dead can be. You’ll team up with Kate Laswell and Soap, both well-known from the main MW3 campaign. We’ll investigate a town that went dark following an attack by Zakaev, another of the Modern Warfare series’ antagonists.

Zakaev got his hands on a strange substance (Aetherium, first introduced in Black Ops: Cold War). In a last-ditch effort to escape the authorities, he released it on the unnamed city. Now Task Force 141, assisted by Sergei Ravenov — also of Cold War fame — has been sent in to ensure nothing gets in or out.

We’ll play as our chosen MW3 operator, and from what I can glean from the trailer, weaponry will be the same as the base game. Though, we’ll have to wait for more information to be sure. It’s likely weapon progress will transfer between Zombies, multiplayer, and Warzone, too. That’s been the series’ MO since Modern Warfare 2019. The difference is we’ll probably be able to use our leveled MW2 weapons right off the rip. That will certainly save some time for the initial progression grind.

Gameplay will take place in a massive open-world environment against both the living and the undead. You’ll share the world with other squads all geared up to take on the zombie menace. There will be a number of events and challenges available in the Exclusion Zone map, coupled with cinematics to tell the ongoing Zombies storyline as the MW3 year goes on.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 releases on November 10, 2023, on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Battle.net. Stay tuned to our MW3 hub for more.
