Sony officially launched its next-generation console last Friday, during a huge televised event under the name of PS4 All Access: Greatness Awaits.
Well, during the first 24 hours since it was officially launched, Sony has sold over 1 million units of the console just in the US and Canada, as announced by Sony Worldwide Studios President, Shuhei Yoshida, over Twitter:

Andrew House, president and group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment declared:
“We are thrilled that consumer reaction has been so phenomenal. Sales remain very strong in North America, and we expect continued enthusiasm as we launch the PlayStation 4 in Europe and Latin America on November 29.”
Back in October, industry analyst Michael Pachter stated that PS4 pre-orders could go up for about 1.5 million units, and it sure seems he was quite accurate so far.
This has been quite an amazing launch. During the event, Naughty Dog revealed a brand new Uncharted game, which will be coming to the PlayStation 4, as well as a DLC for its masterpiece, The Last of Us. However, this wasn’t a flawless launch, given that many gamers have complained about getting non-functional consoles, and some others have issues with the console’s HDMI port.
The issues are “isolated” as Sony said, going for up to a 0.4% of the total amount of sold units. Sadly, that really low percentage turns to be quite a high number of defective consoles (over 40,000 consoles), which are being either replaced by retailers or given support by Sony.
The main issue buyers are experiencing is the popular “Blue Light of Death” which is that the blue light of the console blinks, for which Sony is taking full responsibility. There’s already an official PlayStation forums thread that walks users through potential fixes for this flashing blue light (“Blue Light of Death”).
Still, the best solution, in case you’re one of the unlucky customers who got a defective console, is to call Sony’s customer service and so report the issue, in which case the customer service representative will be giving you options, such as:
- Take your defective PS4 console to your nearest Sony Store, as they sometimes can perform some maintenance on-site, as well as provide an immediate replacement for your defective console, if needed.
- Provide the representative with your shipping info so that Sony can send you a return box to your house within 2 days, so that you can send your PS4 back to them so that they can try to repair the console and send it back, or send you a brand new PS4 in 5 to 7 days.
If you are not experiencing the “Blue Light of Death” but something different, the best solution is to call them, as representatives have troubleshooting steps for most of the known issues with the PS4 console, and so are able to get it resolved.
