My Little Pony: Fighting is No Longer Magic

MLP fan fighting game creators slapped with cease and desist.

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic took off on the internet like no one could have ever predicted. Not only was it a success with its target audience of young children, but kidults all across the web flocked to it. Its wide appeal might have to do with Lauren Faust, wife of Powerpuff Girls creator Craig McCracken, being its creator, developer, writer, etc.

It’s quite the no brainer to assume that fan music, writing, games, etc. will be created, due to its large following. One such fan work was entitled My Little Pony: Fighting is Magic. As the title suggests, it’s a fighting game set in the MLP universe. Or, it was.

In a rather uncool move on Hasbro’s part, Fighting is Magic has been slapped with a cease and desist letter. The game was far enough along to take 4th place as one of the entrants in the EVO charity contest.

Whether or not one is a fan of the series, it’s sad to see so much effort being for naught. On the flipside, Lauren Faust herself sent the following to game developer Mane6: “want some original characters to make a new game with?” So, even though all the MLP based animations will be scrapped, hopefully something can be done with the engine that was created for Fighting is Magic.
